Defensive Technique: Blocking with knee (High Stance Blocking)
“Learning to attack is as important as learning to defend”. Defensive techniques in Bokator include blocking, sliding, and protecting styles from attacks of the opponent. “Defense” is an important technique amongst the main techniques which practitioners of Bokator have to know and learn.
Learn how to defend
In this picture, martial artist (1) shows off a defensive technique called “blocking with knee (high stance blocking)” to counter kicking from his counterpart martial artist (2) that is targeted directly at his rib. It happens when both fighters are standing in the same upright position.
For blocking or defending with knee, it is divided into two techniques; same direction blocking style and sliding blockade. In this picture, our martial artist performs how to block the attack from the same direction and for the using of this technique, it depends sequences of kicking from the opponent.
Besides using the knee to block, both his hands have to be raised in front of his face to prevent frontal assault from the opponent. To practice this technique, you need to have strong stance as well as quick reaction.
According to the The book of Lobokator “White Krama Class” by San Kimsean in Chapter 3 from page 25th to 34th, this is one of the 9 main and basic movements of blocking and defense that all bokator practitioners will have to study.
