Mee Chiet handovers Preah Vossa Candles and Gifts to the monks in Prek Ampil Pagoda, Kampot
Mee Chiet brought Preah Vossa candles and gifts to monks, who are going to stay in pagoda for rainy season, in Prek Ampil pagoda, located in Prek Ampil village, Koh Touch commune, Bokor city, Kampot province in the morning of 22 July 2021.
This event coincided with the arrival of the Preah Vossa religious ceremony in which Cambodians always take Sla Dok, popularly called Sla Dok skirt, as well as kerosene, candles, incenses, food and baverages to the monks who are staying in the pagoda during rainy season. The word “Vossa” comes from the Pali word “vossak” which means rain or rainy season. Preah Vossa lasts for 4 months starting from first of new moon in Assad to 15th of full moon in Kattak upon lunar calendar.
Mr. Hong Sovann, a representative of Marketing department, said that Mee Chiet always pays attention to social, religious and cultural activities in order to help for social improvement. During the outbreak of Covid-19, most people are praticed health prevention to reduce the transmission of Covid-19, which led to food shortage at some monasteries. Therefore, Mee Chiet has prepared Preah Vossa candles and gifts for monks in order to help alleviate the difficulties at the pagoda.
The items that brought to the monks have 17 items including Preah Vossa candles, Sla Dok , rices, noodles, canned fish, vital premium water, tea, coffee, sugar, salt, fish sauce, soy sauce, kerosene, alcohol, beetroot and many kinds of medicines. This year’s Preah Vossa religious ceremony will start from July 25, 2021 in period of 4 months during the rainy season that all the monks have to stay at the pagoda on a regular basis.
